About Eagle Rock
Eagle Rock is located on 183 acres of rolling hills, creating a challenging experience for golfers of every level. For a complete description of the course, either click here or click 'Layout"at the top.
The 18-hole course was designed by Bill Schober and built in 1987. The original name of the course was The Summit, to emphasize the hill behind the clubhouse.
Stories are Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, used to sit on top of the hill to watch for police cars being driven along the nearby country roads. Of course, this was before Interstate 45 was built.
The founding group of the golf course continued operations through the 1990s. The Summit was then purchased by an individual in East Texas and operated through mid-2004.
Rocky Carlson took over The Summit in June, 2004 and changed the name to Eagle Rock Golf Club, a DBA of Rocky's corporation, Rocky Carlson Enterprises, Inc. After two years of operations, Rocky and friend Gio Manettas formed their corporation, Giorock Inc., to own and operate the course. The DBA "Eagle Rock Golf Club" was transferred to the new company.
The course is currently owned equally by Gio and Rocky and both are active in operations.
Gio, originally from the beautiful country of Greece, has extensive experience in business and in the hospitality industry. He owns several other businesses, both in the Dallas Metroplex and in other cities. Gio is pictured standing next to the life-size statue of "The Hickory Club Golfer."
Rocky, pictured here with his lovely wife Ginger, has experience in both the recreation and hospitality industries. Everyone who knows Rocky is aware of both his love of sports and his phenomenal retention of player stats.
Below is a photo of Rocky with Coach Ken Carter, about whom the movie "Coach Carter" (starring Samuel L. Jackson) was released in 2005. When his basketball team in Richmond, CA (near San Francisco) failed to meet academic expectations, the Coach locked out the entire team until they brought up their grades, thus completing their academic contracts with the Coach. Rocky has numerous photos of himself with professional athletes he has met over his lifetime.
In addition to playing baseball, football, and basketball as a youth, Rocky has been a golfer since his early teens and has played courses throughout the United States. Prior to opening his bar and restaurant in Deep Ellum in the 1990s (later sold), Rocky worked in the golf departments of two area country clubs, Gleneagles in Plano and Oak Ridge in Garland. He also has been a consultant to a variety of DFW businesses.
